Deck machinery

Deck equipment for anchoring, mooring, towing or other shore applications such as dry dock winches.

Winches and windlasses are supplied for horizontal or vertical arrangement, with hydraulic or electric drive.

Other options, such as constant tension or peak torque protection can be incorporated in these units.

Anchor windlasses

There is a wide variety. Depending on their arrangement, windlasses can be manufactured with vertical or horizontal axis, single  or double chain line, electric or electrohydraulic drive, windlasses combined with drums / capstans for mooring operations, ATEX, etc. Usually, each project requires a specific re-design to adapt mooring equipment to the arrangement on the deck, like distance between hawse pipes, fairleads, panama guides, etc. In the case of electrohydraulic windlasses, Servoship designs and manufactures the power unit associated with the equipment as well as the electrical power and control panels. In the case of electric windlasses, we also supply the electric starter or frequency converter.

Chain hoisting speeds above the requirements of the classification societies, console indication of chain length, constant tension in the case of combined reels, hydraulic brake or clutch actuation, proportional controls, etc. are all available options.

Servoship has supplied windlasses for countless projects, certifying them under any classification society: Lloyds Register, Bureau veritas, RINA, DNV-GL, etc.

We are specialized in the supply of deck equipment for all types of ships, with special mention to our extensive experience in the supply of this equipment for warships for the navies of different countries around the world. Projects in which the requirements of quality, robustness and document management are especially demanding.

Chain stoppers

To properly guide the chain from the the wildcat to the hawse pipe, and in order to retain the anchor stowed, a chain stopper is installed. Servoship manufactures roller and horizontally arranged chain stoppers in accordance with the rules of any classification society, designed to withstand 80% of the chain breaking load.

They can be manufactured in high strength rolled steel or cast steel.

Optionally, remote hydraulic operation can be arranged to lower or hoist the stopper beam.

Mooring winches

Electrically or electro-hydraulically driven. The usual arrangement combines one or two drums with one or two end capstans at the shaft end. They are designed according to the desired draft and speed and the drums are sized for the requested length and diameter of the stay or ropes. Likewise, the drums can be splited into a store and working drums, and the brakes and clutches can be manually or hydraulically operated.

In the case of electrohydraulic winches, Servoship designs and manufactures the power unit associated with the equipment as well as the electrical power and control panels. In the case of electric winches, we also supply the electric starter or frequency converter.

Capstans

Normally equipment with vertical shaft arrangement, the construction of mooring winches usually consists of a steel pedestal supporting the entire winch, a hydraulic or electric motor, a gear transmission, a brake and a shaft, with a tapered end to which the capstan is keyed.

The diameter of the capstan as well as the sizing of the motor and gear transmission is adjusted to the pulling and speed requirements.

In cases where space on the lower winch deck is limited by the existence of tanks or insufficient height, Servoship has developed a design in which the motor and gears are located inside the capstan itself, so there is no encroachment on the lower space and no need to increase the height of the pedestal. Logically, this results in a significant increase in the diameter of the capstan.

Towing winches

These are winches with high pulling capacities and speed, and which require to guarantee the braking torque of the drum’s band brake above the tug’s Bollard Pull.

The towing winches built by Servoship are hydraulically operated, normally powered from a hydraulic unit with variable flow pumps of medium power and hydraulic equipment necessary to ensure emergency release or Quick Release, as well as display of the pressure of the hydraulic circuit, meters of the towed forestay, pull indication, etc. They are normally supplied with a control panel for the bridge, which includes the usual alarms as well as panels with analogical indications of the most relevant parameters, as well as a proportional action joystick.

Auxiliary winches

Winches for any type of application, such as hose winches with rotary joint for octopus drive hose service on dredges, winches for octopus hoisting-hauling, winches for various auxiliary services such as forestay recovery, gangway ladder, etc.

Spooling devices

Conventional transmission by chain and slotted shaft through which the bronze nail arranged on the roller carriage runs, or synchronized control by means of drive motor and encoders placed on the shaft of the docker itself and on the drum shaft. In this case the carriage moves by the action of the trapezoidal threaded spindle on the nut of the roller carriage.

Vertical Fairleads

Mechanically welded construction with steel plate pedestal in cylindrical or truncated cone shape, carbon steel shaft and cast steel rollers.
